Roger Corman, Hollywood Gateway

Roger Corman, forever linked with cheap horror classics and B movies, was an entrepreneur, a mentor to young talented directors, a distributor of Ingmar Bergman masterpieces, and a champion of indie filmmakers.

Working with small budgets and short production schedules, he let newcomers take their first crack at the big screen and drive-ins.

Helping to launch the careers of Jack Nicholson, Peter Fonda, Denis Hopper, Joe Dante, Ron Howard, Coppola, Scorsese, Bogdanovich, and Demme, Corman produced over 300 films and directed 50. Recognized for his series of Edgar Alan Poe films, he also created Little Shop of Horrors featuring Jack Nicholson, a film that was eventually turned into a perennial favorite Broadway musical.

Roger Corman died May 9, 2024 at age 98, forever the giant of small budget films.
